I Fell In Love With Living

When you see that my smile has changed,

The way my eyes look alive again,

How I skip and dance instead of walking in a straight line,

You might ask me if I’ve fallen in love.

I’ll smile and tell you that I have.

I’ve fallen in love with the sunshine.

I’ve fallen in love with the breath in my lungs.

I’ve fallen in love with the tiny flowers that pop up in my garden.

I’ve fallen in love with the people who are hopelessly in love.

I’ve fallen in love with the laughter in my belly.

I’ve fallen in love with the tiny footsteps of a child.

I’ve fallen in love with my imagination as I ignore my age and pretend that today I am a fierce warrior or maybe a delicate fairy.

I’ve fallen in love with the kindness of strangers.

I’ve fallen in love with the scars and freckles on my skin.

I’ve fallen in love with awkward dates and butterflies in my stomach.

I’ve fallen in love with well-written characters as I finally make time to tear through book after book after book.

I’ve fallen in love with Christmas movies and gingerbread houses.

I’ve fallen in love with hot summers and jumping into a cold pool for the first time this year.

I’ve fallen in love with singing slow songs in my car.

I’ve fallen in love with 2 a.m. conversations with people who just need a friend to keep them company.

I’ve fallen in love with the pretty clothes that make me stand taller.

I’ve fallen in love with God.

I’ve fallen in love with living.

I’ve fallen in love.

Song: Be Okay – Oh Honey

Is four posts in one day excessive? Yes? Oh well! Some days, I can’t convince myself to post a previously written poem, let alone write a new one. And then there are days like today where I have decided to be deliriously happy and just am. Poetry comes easily some days and won’t come at all on others, and that’s okay. Today, I am happy. And the best part is that there really isn’t a reason. I decided I didn’t want any sadness today and that’s what I’ve done. There are days when it really is that simple. And for that reason, I can’t tear myself away from my notebook (and computer) because I’m too happy not to write about it.
